TCO reduced by 50 percent
Emporix has been a game-changer for HABA. Their composable commerce platform allowed us to overcome the limitations of our legacy system, enabling seamless scalability and faster innovation. The collaboration with Emporix and Medienwerft was exceptional, delivering a future-proof solution that aligns perfectly with our strategic goals. We’re now equipped to drive forward with confidence, knowing our digital infrastructure can evolve with us.

Navigating the Complexities of a Legacy System
HABA’s legacy SAP Hybris platform was formally “headless,” but in reality, the monolithic backend made it inflexible, slow to adapt, and expensive to maintain.
Key challenges included:
- Poor performance hurting both customer experience and SEO
- High maintenance workload due to years of custom code
- Slow innovation cycles tied up in system upgrades and technical debt
- Rising TCO threatening the long-term profitability of the system
- The company needed a solution that could support future growth, reduce costs, and unify all commerce operations.

From Complexity to Clarity with Commerce Orchestration
HABA partnered with Emporix and implementation expert Medienwerft to modernize its e-commerce infrastructure. Using a lean commerce approach, the company transitioned step by step to the Emporix Commerce Orchestration Platform – without any business disruption.
Key solution elements:
- Seamless scalability and strong performance, even under peak traffic
- Developer-friendly APIs and documentation, enabling rapid innovation with less overhead
- Consolidated architecture, unifying B2C, B2B, and reseller operations into one streamlined system
The foundation: a MACH-based architecture (Microservices, API-first, Cloud-native, Headless) that supports agility, modularity, and future growth.
From Proof of Concept to Full Implementation
The transformation journey began with a rapid Proof of Concept (PoC), executed in collaboration with HABA's long-time partner, Medienwerft. Within just two weeks, the PoC showcased the power of Emporix by replicating HABA’s front-end seamlessly, connecting it to the Emporix backend. This success cemented HABA’s decision to proceed with Emporix.
Despite the challenges of internal restructuring and tight deadlines, the project moved swiftly. By decoupling the existing SAP Commerce Cloud platform and introducing microservices, the team was able to transition HABA to a true composable commerce environment. The collaborative approach between HABA, Medienwerft, and Emporix ensured that the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) was delivered within a tight four-month timeframe.

TCO halved, smarter innovation
The switch to Emporix was not just a technological upgrade, but a real efficiency lever. Instead of high maintenance costs, license fees and resource-intensive updates, HABA now benefits from a modern, modular platform with significantly lower costs.
