AI in B2B Sales: Why Business Context Decides the Deal

Two customers ask your online shop the same question on the same afternoon, and none of the AI in B2B sales tools you own notices the difference. One has bought from you for a decade, pays on time and is flagged as a key account in your CRM. The other has never ordered. In most B2B shops today, both get the identical answer, because the storefront cannot see what the ERP and the CRM know. That gap is expensive: in McKinsey's 2026 Global B2B Pulse, inconsistent information across a supplier's teams and channels is the top reason B2B buyers switch suppliers.

This is the moment sales AI is supposed to fix, and where most tools fall short, because they only see the CRM. Closing that gap is the idea behind ACE², the second version of Emporix's Autonomous Commerce Execution® platform, revealed to around 50 invited guests at the Emporix launch event in Zug on 20 and 21 October 2026. ACE² gives AI the context of how your business runs, so the same process can take the right path for each customer, and the people around it can change that process by prompt.

Why AI in B2B Sales Fails Without Context

AI in B2B sales rarely fails because of the AI. It fails because of what the AI is allowed to see. Most tools work inside the CRM: they draft emails, score leads and summarise calls. What a B2B customer has actually bought, paid and last put in a cart sits in the ERP and the shop, and a CRM assistant usually cannot reach either.

AI has made storefronts, apps and features cheap to rebuild, so the frontend is no longer where a B2B supplier can hold an advantage. What competitors cannot copy sits underneath: your customer relationships, commercial rules, processes and the know-how of your employees. ACE² is built on that premise, summed up in the launch line "Anyone can clone your storefront. Nobody can clone your context."

For most manufacturers and wholesalers in the DACH region, that context already exists. It is spread across an ERP that holds order history, margins and payment behaviour, a CRM that holds account ratings and open opportunities, and a shop that sees carts, quotes and questions. The problem is that no single process can read all three at the moment a decision is made.

Context-aware AI in B2B sales is an approach in which sales and commerce processes, storefronts and employee tools use live business context (order history, payment behaviour, account status, open quotes and process state from ERP, CRM and shop) to decide what happens next for each customer, instead of running the same fixed path for everyone.

That is different from personalisation as most teams know it. A recommendation widget changes what a buyer sees. Context changes what the process does: which offer is made, whether sales is told, and what happens to a cart that is left behind.

Watch ACE² at Work: One Customer's Context, Used Three Ways

The clearest way to understand context-aware AI in B2B sales is to watch one customer's context move through a running operation. The ACE² launch film follows Weber Solartechnik, a solar installer in Bavaria, from scattered system data to a tailored offer. Weber Solartechnik is an illustrative customer created for the film, and the figures on screen are not real data.

Commerce that understands context.

The film opens with three disconnected records: a shop cart with solar modules, a battery and a mounting kit, a list of sales orders in the ERP, and a CRM entry that tags Weber as an installer in Bavaria. ACE² combines them into one view of the customer and flags Weber as a valued customer. When Weber abandons a cart or requests a quote, that event becomes a case, a task and a workflow that lands with the sales team. A sales lead types one prompt, "Create a Sales cockpit with quotes and abandoned carts", and the cockpit appears. Finally, Weber asks the storefront agent about a 450 m² roof near Munich and receives an offer for rooftop PV with storage, built from its order history, with a button to request a quote.

Without that context, the same request gets the same answer for everyone. In the Emporix demo behind the film, a standard customer with little order history who asks the identical question receives a standard answer and a plain cart. The process is the same. The context is different, so the outcome is different.

  Before With context (ACE²)
Experience The same shop for everyone The right offer for the right customer
Buying intent Carts are left behind and forgotten Abandoned carts are recognised and turn into quotes
Sales Hears nothing Sees quote requests and abandoned carts in its own cockpit
Changing the process An IT project One prompt
Access One view for everyone Each role sees its own work

What's New in ACE²: Three Capabilities That Turn Context Into Action

ACE² adds three capabilities to the Emporix platform: the Celonis Context Model, which supplies business context; the Interaction Hub, which runs processes on that context; and the AI Experience Builder, which turns it into customer and employee experiences. Together they follow one flow: understand, coordinate, engage, execute.

01 · Celonis Context Model: Commerce That Knows Every Customer

The Celonis Context Model is a live digital twin of operations that gives AI business context, with process and decision intelligence. Inside Emporix, it connects customers, orders and events into one model, supports prompted reports on live KPIs, and generates insights and recommendations. In the launch film, it is why Weber Solartechnik shows up as a valued customer: the open cart from the shop, this year's orders from the ERP, and the installer segment and region from the CRM are combined into one view of the relationship. You do not need a full Celonis license to use the Context Model in ACE², and the Emporix team can explain how it is licensed for your setup.

02 · Interaction Hub: Commerce That Runs Every Process

The Interaction Hub is one place to design, run and connect processes, either by prompt or by step-by-step configuration. It introduces Augmented Value Streams: Value Streams automated end to end and linked to frontends, with monitoring of cases, tasks and exceptions, and connections to external process engines where they are needed. In the film, an abandoned cart or a quote request becomes an event that moves through case, task and workflow to the right team, so sales hears about it instead of the signal dying in the shop. Changing that routing is a prompt or a configuration step, not a development ticket.

03 · AI Experience Builder: Commerce That Builds Every Experience

The AI Experience Builder creates customer and employee experiences from context rather than templates. That covers AI-generated storefront homepages, storefronts that rebuild as situations change, and dynamic employee cockpits, such as the sales cockpit in the film, built from a single prompt and listing quote requests and abandoned carts with customer, value and date. On the customer side, the same context produces the tailored rooftop offer Weber receives. It also reaches beyond the web to agents, mobile, EDI and punchout. That matters in DACH industry: the Carpathia B2B-Monitor 2025 found that industrial buyers in Switzerland prefer ordering from their own systems rather than webshops, so an experience that only exists in a storefront misses much of the order flow.

Contextual Commerce: Automation Follows Instructions, Context Reads the Situation

Automation executes the same steps every time it is triggered. Context lets the process recognise the situation first and choose the right path, which is the step between automated and autonomous commerce. Emporix describes the path in three stages: automated commerce, where Value Streams and commerce agents automate interactions and processes; contextual commerce, where ACE² adapts journeys and Value Streams to the situation; and autonomous commerce, where processes pursue business goals within governance.

That sequence matters for anyone who has already invested in automation. Emporix ACE is commerce that observes, decides, and executes without waiting for a human trigger, and Value Streams are the end-to-end logic connecting systems, processes, and people across the entire order lifecycle. Existing Value Streams keep running in ACE², and the new capabilities build on them. If you want the mechanics behind that layer, this explainer on how Value Streams run commerce operations goes deeper, and the distinction between agentic and autonomous is covered in agentic vs autonomous commerce.

Automation already pays where the process is well defined. ACR, a B2B distributor, uses Emporix for autonomous order intake: purchase orders arrive as PDFs, agents read them, validate them against customer-specific pricing and pass them to the ERP, so people only handle exceptions. The ACR story reports 10x ROI, 99 percent straight-through processing and about 2,000 purchase orders per month. Context is what extends that kind of result from structured tasks like order intake to judgement-heavy moments such as quote management, sales follow-up and the offer a returning customer sees.

What ACE² Does Not Ask You to Replace

The fear behind most platform decisions is building something that is outdated before it pays back. ACE² is designed to sit on top of what you already run. Your ERP, CRM, PIM and other systems stay in place and become the sources of context, existing Value Streams keep running, and processes can still be configured manually by teams that prefer step-by-step control over prompts.

There are honest limits. Context is only as good as the data behind it, so an account rating nobody maintains or an ERP with inconsistent customer records will produce confident but wrong decisions. Prompt-built changes still need an owner: a sales cockpit created in a minute is still a process change that someone has to approve, test and govern. And contextual commerce is the second stage, not the last; the move to goal-driven autonomous processes depends on the governance you build now. The Emporix ACE platform is built so that each stage adds to the previous one rather than replacing it.

How to Tell Whether Your Sales Operation Is Ready for Context-Aware AI

You do not need a perfect data estate to start, but you do need to know where context lives and who acts on it. These six questions give a quick read on readiness:

  1. Can you name the moment where context is missing? A returning key account treated like a first-time buyer, a quote nobody follows up, a cart nobody sees. Start with one.
  2. Is the context already captured somewhere? Order history and payment behaviour in the ERP, account status in the CRM, carts and questions in the shop.
  3. Can those systems be read through APIs or an integration layer? Context-aware AI in B2B sales connects systems; it should not require replacing them.
  4. Is there a process owner on the business side? Prompt-first change only helps if someone outside IT is accountable for the process.
  5. Do you know which roles need which view? Sales follow-up and order intake need different information and different actions.
  6. Do you have a measure of success? Conversion, cancelled orders, time spent on quote handling or straight-through processing, measured before and after.

If you can answer four of the six, a focused pilot on one process is realistic. For a broader view of how this fits into a full operating model, see what autonomous B2B commerce execution looks like in practice.

Frequently Asked Questions About ACE² and AI in B2B Sales

What is ACE² from Emporix?

ACE² is the second version of Emporix Autonomous Commerce Execution®, revealed in October 2026. It gives AI the context of how a business runs and adds three capabilities: the Celonis Context Model for live business context, the Interaction Hub for designing and running processes by prompt or configuration, and the AI Experience Builder for creating customer and employee experiences from context rather than templates.

Do I need a Celonis license to use the Context Model in ACE²?

Not a full one. The Celonis Context Model is integrated inside Emporix, and using it in ACE² does not require a full Celonis license. The Emporix team can explain how the Context Model is licensed for your setup. It combines data from systems such as shop, ERP and CRM into a live digital twin of operations, so processes and AI agents in Emporix can act on business context like order history, payment behaviour and account status.

Do we have to replace our ERP, CRM or PIM to use ACE²?

No. ACE² connects to existing ERP, CRM, PIM and other systems and uses them as sources of context. They stay in place. That makes context-aware AI in B2B sales an addition to an existing IT estate rather than a replatforming project, which suits DACH manufacturers and wholesalers whose operations are built around an established ERP.

Will AI replace B2B salespeople?

No. Personal relationships still carry weight in B2B buying: in the Carpathia B2B-Monitor 2025, 84 percent of B2B buyers in Switzerland rate personal recommendations as relevant or rather relevant when searching for new suppliers or products. Context-aware AI takes the searching and collating off the sales team and shows which customer, which quote and which abandoned cart are worth following up.

How is context-aware AI different from personalisation?

Personalisation usually changes what a buyer sees, such as product recommendations or banners. Context-aware AI changes what the process does. Using live data from shop, ERP and CRM, it decides which offer to make, whether sales is notified, how an abandoned cart is handled and which view each employee gets, so the same question can lead to different, appropriate outcomes for different customers.

AI in B2B Sales Will Be Decided Below the Surface

As AI makes storefronts easy to copy, the advantage in B2B shifts to what sits underneath: the customer relationships, rules and processes only your company has. AI in B2B sales only puts that advantage to work when it sees the context from shop, ERP and CRM at the moment a customer asks a question, a quote is created or a cart is left behind. The suppliers who connect their context now will be the ones ready when processes start pursuing goals on their own.
